Oui, Oui Paris II

"The secret to getting a polite answer from the French is to ALWAYS open in French.", I said: "You will also need to apologize profusely for not speaking the language of Voltaire. Then and only then will they grace you with an answer."
"Aham."; said The Husband: "Any other tips?"
"ALWAYS compliment a dog."
"A dog? What if there's no dog?"
"There's always a small dog. This is the French we are talking about."; I concluded whilst avoiding stepping in dog poo on the pavement.

We continued on towards Notre Dame and that wretched "love locks" bridge "Pont de l'ArchevĂȘchĂ©".
We sat on one of the benches and observed the lovestruck tourists frantically looking for a free space to hang their love lock (there is no space) and then throwing the key into the Seine river believing their love to somehow become eternal after that act.
"Did you know that the city of Paris removes the locks every so often as the bridge wire cannot take their weight and it splits?"
"So the locks are not eternal after all?"
"No, not at all."
"In that case, I give them three months.", said The Husband and pointed at the soppy couple that just "locked" their love onto the bridge.

Oui, Oui Paris I

"Sweetheart, it's time for our annual trip to Paris"; I announced.
"Yaaaas!", he said.
We secured the Eurostar and the hotel; packed our bags and off we went.

Being an anal kind of person, I always make sure that my train seats are facing the direction of travel and have a window next to them in case I feel like admiring French countryside mid snooze. This time was no different.
BUT....
WAIT...
There was a French girl sitting belligerently on my reserved seat.
"This can't be."; I thought.
I double checked the tickets, but there was no mistaking it. A French bottom was nonchalantly perched on MY seat.
Inside me I was all like "Move bitch, get out the way, get out the way bitch, get out the way. " , but what I actually said was more akin to: "Excuse me, please. Sorry. Did I say sorry yet? Sorry. Awfully sorry to disturb you, but if you wouldn't mind terribly, this appears to be my reserved seat. Sorry, sorry, sorry, a million times sorry."
God, I have lived on this soggy island called Britain for far too long.
The Frenchie looked at me with disdain and said in that blase way only the French can muster: "Ah, yeah...THIS is my seat"; (she pointed at the seat at the front); "But it has no window. I don't like it."
"Well, tough titty, biatch. These are the seats I paid for. They're MINE. I want them."....Only..., I didn't actually say that. Instead, I apologized profusely a few more times until the Frenchie finally moved. As she was moving to her windowless seat she rolled her eyes a few times to demonstrate how displeased she was.
I didn't care. I was finally in MY seat rolling towards Paris.

Hero Products

The closer the summer is, the more I feel the urge to cover myself with pastel and vibrant war paint. So, naturally all my latest "go to" products follow that brief.
We have 3 nail varnishes (yes, I am obsessed) and one lipstick.
The varnishes are: OPI "Shorts story" a very pink pink....a bubblegummy delicious super pink which looks gorgeous on nails, Ciate "Pocket Money" a pastel like beige nude looking fab on both pale and tanned skins and, last but not least, my favourite Model's Own "Duck" speckled duck egg like powder blue with little black speckles. Truly like an egg. It might not be to everyone's taste, but I love it. The lipstick is Sleek "Liqueur", a pinky nude that, again, looks amazing on both tanned and pale skin.

If you missed my post about terrible Balkan region floods, please, spare a minute of your time and just go read it and see the ways you can help.  The post is here . If you are in London,  there are also more ways to help. More info on Serbian embassy website here. Thank you so very much.

Ray-Ban

This is my strolling around attire. A trench because rain is never far away when you live in the UK, jeans and trusty old Ray-Bans.
I wore:
Sunnies: Ray-Ban
Denim shirt: ASOS
Jeans: Mango

Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

Rings: Dogeared; Kris Nations

One more thing...and I do feel frivolous by posting this on an outfit post, but my blog is frivolous by definition so it's not like there will be a better opportunity to post this.
While everyone was horrified and saddened by Turkey mine disaster in which so many people lost their lives, there was another disaster going on, a bit closer to home for me. It didn't receive quite as much coverage, as the news coming from Turkey was so much more awful, so the news from Balkans may have simply passed you by. The last few days saw terrible floods in Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia and many people lost their lives and their homes. Tens of thousands of people had to be evacuated and almost 1/3 of Bosnian territory is under water. You can read a bit more here and here.
The people desperately need any help they can get so if you are able to, please donate what you can.
You can donate through Croatian Red Cross (they are collecting donations for all three countries affected) here. If you choose on line donations on their page, the text is in Croatian, but the first option in drop down menu is help to Croatia, second option is for Bosnia, third option is general donations and fourth option is for Serbia. You can also donate online (for Serbia only) through Novak Djokovic Foundation here
Thank you all.

Something New

A few new purchases; Claudette underwear set which I am huge fan of and Kris Nations Ring.
Claudette set is superbly made and comes in array of vibrant colours. Their bras are cut generously without looking grandma like. Godsend for someone "blessed" with  larger than average boobage (AKA me). As for the ring...well, it's fun and it comes in cutest little packaging. I got it from Cadenzza and I think I need to go and get some more. :D
Enjoy your weekend. :)

Friday 16 May 2014

I felt a bit Nigella today (or maybe Mary Berry...hmmm) so I made these delish muffins. The Husband said he had better in "Costa". Obviously that means that from now on he can fetch all his food in "Costa" and I will have all homemade pies, muffins and cakes for myself.

Ingredients:
250g plain flour
100g golden caster sugar
75g raspberries
75g strawberries
75g butter (at room temperature)
175ml milk
1 egg
1tbsp baking powder

1) Pre heat the oven to 200c
2) Mix the sugar and baking powder in a bowl and then sieve in the flour
3) Mix the butter into the flour mixture
4) In a separate bowl beat an egg and milk together, then add to the flour mixture and mix well
5) Remove the stalks from strawberries and cut them in half
6) Add both raspberries and strawberries to the muffin mixture
7) Spoon the mixture into the muffin tin and place in the oven for about 25 minutes or until muffins have risen.
8) Eat them all by yourself and don't give any to husbands and boyfriends. They might say they had better at a national coffee house chain.
