Hero Products

These are my fave products I've been using this month.
First up is a Treacle Moon shower gel. I get their products in my local supermarket, they're cheap, but oh, so good. This particular one smells heavenly, though most of you might find cinnamon scent is more suited to winter than to summer.  Not me; I love cinnamon all year around.
The other two are OPI nail varnishes (can you tell just how much I'm addicted to nail varnish yet?). The shades are "I love applause" (the pinkier one) and "Don't bossa nova me around" (the more lilac one). They are very similar, but perfect to wear in the summer; either alone or layered to form a very light ombre effect.
Which products have you been using lately?

Canterbury Eat:
A nice little selection of savouries for your lunch and, of course, all manners of chocolates, cakes, waffles, and hot drinks for your tea and dessert. The portions are a little bit on the small side, but everything is delicious. The decor is sumptuous too. Lovely little place.

Whitstable Eat:
This is a cute little retro food stall located in the Whitstable Village Harbour Market right by the harbour. They have a range of meat and vegetarian options as well as nice selection of cold drinks. Portions are generous and their sandwiches and wraps are delicious.

My Mum decided to visit the other day.  Since she visited London many, many times before, The Husband and I decided to show her some of the other charms England has to offer.
"We should take her to the seaside. She's gonna love it!"; I exclaimed.
"Hmmmm...she lives in Croatia; their seaside is a bit better than the English one."; reasoned The Husband.
"Nonsense! She'll LOVE it."; I repeated.
So off we went in our car. Destination:Whitstable, a charming seaside town on the Kent coast and only an hour drive from London.
The weather was nice and the skies were blue.
"Look, Ma...this is Whitstable!!!"; I extended my arms dramatically towards the general direction of the beach.
"This is the beach??????"; asked Ma.
"Um, yes!"
"It's CATASTROPHIC! They swim in THIS?????? The English?"
I guess she was not too impressed.
"I told you so."; smirked The Husband.
"But, Ma, look how charming it is...."
She was having none of it.
The town itself fared a little bit better. She loved all the quaint little wooden houses and converted fishermen's huts; she also loved a humongous sandwich we ate from one of the seaside stalls and all the flowers in bloom.
After the excitement of Whitstable, we headed towards Canterbury with its beautiful Cathedral.
"Very nice Cathedral. Shame it's an Anglican one."; she observed.
Ma is, of course, a staunch Catholic and there was no pleasing her.
We rounded off our day trip in Canterbury's "Chocolate Cafe".
Ma ordered a cake and a coffee.
"This cake is miniscule. One gets much bigger portions in Croatia."; she said.
"Well, perhaps the English are worried about their blood sugar levels."; I suggested.
"Hmmm...."; she said none too convinced and bit into the cake: "It's delicious, though."

Saturday 26 July 2014

As you all may know by now, I'm a foodie. And one of the best places for foodies in London, is Borough Market , one of the oldest and largest food markets in London. I go there to get quality food and ingredients, gawp at people (I can't help it, sorry), enjoy the atmosphere and kill homesickness by shopping at Taste Croatia. My other favourite is Karaway Bakery which sells the most amazing Russian breads and pastries. So, if you find yourself in London, give it a go. Try to avoid going on Saturday as it can get very crowded. Of course, with all this food on display, you're bound to get peckish.  Avoid "Fish!" restaurant in the market itself; I found it overpriced and not particularly good (the fish was overcooked and not well seasoned). The better option is to sample directly from the market stalls or, if you prefer to sit down, try one of the many restaurants just outside the market itself.

Full Circle

It's my wedding anniversary today, YAY! This is the outfit I chose for the occasion...a full skirted dress from ASOS perfect for twirling around in and pretending you're on the Italian riviera circa 1955. Too bad I'm still in London, eh?

I wore:
Dress: ASOS
Sandals: Sol Sana
Name necklace: ONecklace
Ring: Isharya

Something New

I've been shopping again...
First up Kurt Geiger sandals....you can never have too many of cute, flat sandals. Comfortable, perfect to walk in and, in the case of this particular pair, super cute thanks to the glam addition of sparkly crystals.
Nail varnish is "Gaining Mole-mentum" by OPI. Looks lovely layered over the nude polish on tanned skin.
Last but not the least, the latest buzzword in beauty...CLAY. Whether you do clay diet or just use it in beauty products, clay seems to be the new wonder ingredient. This masque is brightening and promises to smooth, brighten and refresh your face.
What summer essentials did you buy lately?

ONecklace

Look what the postman brought today...a lovely bracelet from Onecklace. I already have my beloved name tag necklace  from them so the bracelet is another welcome addition and I can't wait to wear it. The jewellery is competitively priced and it is of very good quality and design. In addition to their own website, you can now get their jewellery via Etsy shop too.

Paris Tips

Sleep:
This is a lovely hotel in Bastille; very airy and clean with decent size rooms (for Parisian standards). The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and the rooms are comfortable and feel so very fresh. There are also some great options for dining nearby.

Eat:
Le Loir Dans La Theiere (3 Rue des Rosiers, 4e)
One of my absolute favourite Parisian places to eat, drink tea and chillax. It's conveniently located in Le Marais district so you can go there after all the shopping in little chi-chi boutiques.
Sure, this place has been "discovered" by now, but it's also popular with Parisians so the feeling is still authentic. Besides they make the best cakes. If you happen to visit Paris in autumn, make sure you try their chestnut cake. It's to die for. Despite of some negative online reviews regarding friendliness of this place, the staff IS friendly and helpful, but do not go in there barking orders in English. Even a smattering of French goes a very, very long way here.

I wrote about this particular experience here, so I'm not going to repeat myself too much. All in all, go there once for the experience and return for take out cakes. And make sure you most definitely try their hot chocolates and Mont Blanc.

Shop:
I thought I knew my eclairs. In reality, I knew diddly squat. THESE are the ONLY eclairs you will ever need to eat. Ever. And once you start eating them, you won't be able to stop. They're not cheap, but they're worth their weight in gold. My only regret is that I didn't buy more, so make sure you ask for the biggest possible box. In fact, don't stop at just one box.

Kusmi tea can now be found in both the UK and the States, but Paris is where it all started. Hands down, the best teas you will ever have. Buy them loose and make sure you try more offbeat flavours such as Rose Green tea or Almond Green Tea.

Good place to stock up on chocolates, truffles, etc...
I still think UK's Hotel Chocolat is better, but these are not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.
